Accurate. Reliable. Confidential Testing.
I cannot say enough nice things about Cynthia Slagle, CEO/President of ARCpoint Labs of Eastern Carolina (Greenville, N.C.). I am participating in an international study wherein many breast cancer survivors, such as myself, will have their blood serum and hair assessed for personal exposure to known toxic substances in an effort to shed light on the association between body burdens and disease rates. Data will be submitted to global datasets, such as that of the United Nations Environment Programme. In mid-November the challenge became: How do I ship 5 mL of blood serum to Örebro University in Sweden, and before they close for the Christmas holiday no less?! Complicating matters is that I live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where medical services are limited. Over the course of the next five weeks, I spoke with no less than six laboratories in Tidewater Virginia and Eastern North Carolina – some private, some associated with my doctors, and even, the university where I work (which has a School of Medicine). The reasons ranged the gamut, but all said they could not help. On Dec. 17, I was about to give up, but someone gave me the number of a small little lab I hadn’t heard of – Arcpoint. I decided to give it one last ‘college try.’ Upon answering the phone, Cynthia Slagle immediately replied, “Sure; not a problem.” I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing. And from that moment, she was on it! That evening, she called my cell phone to let me know she already had spoken with FedEx about the international shipping, and we arranged to meet 8 AM the next morning for the blood draw. I wanted to maximize the shipping window time, as well as to allow me to make the near 5-hour roundtrip from the coast to Greenville without missing much time from work. I only found out later they normally open at 8:30 AM. Cynthia opened special for me. She continually kept me abreast of tracking information, and genuinely seemed vested in the research effort. Since being diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2013, I’ve seen more than my share of doctors, nurses, clinical lab assistants/phlebotomists, and diagnostic technicians. I would put the services Cynthia Slagle and Arcpoint Labs provided near the top of the list. She was professional, fast and pleasant. Thank you, again, Cynthia!
